Laser Cutting: Part Two (Testing and Sketches)
Process For First Sketches and Transfer to Rhino
Testing
First, I needed to make the tile into the proper format for the laser cutter to read. I decided to just do the main tile and I took out some of the elements to simplify it for this test.
Colour coding and hatching.
Adding a material reference for proper scale.
The file, for the laser cutter to be able to properly read the file, had to be changed. All etching is in grayscale and the red for the cut marks has to be red 250. And the laser cutter can only read Rhino 7 files.
Final Test Cut
Project Progress
First, I decided on what I wanted to do - at first I wanted to do some other crests from my own art. But I wasn't quite sure how I wanted to assemble the project. Then I was struck by an even better idea, with an idea on how to assemble it.
It will be a small 3D picture of a bug amongst ferns and grass and the like. Some of the leaves will extend beyond the frame. The frame will be textured/etched. Plants will either be "shaded" as well, or I might paint them. We shall see. But the bug will definitely be painted.
To help transfer my sketch, I took it into Illustrator to block out the shapes.
