Reverse Engineer: Part One (Choosing an object and measuring it + Kettle Demo)
Presentation:
Kettle Demo:
I couldn't get the ref he was working with, so I took a screenshot.
The colour mask was not the best (due to it being a screenshot probably)
Then I did the revolve command. Accidentally did it for a half rotation at first.
Doing the main line for the spout.
Fillet-ing
I originally had a few lines here instead of just two, so I used the smoother on the two "main" lines to make the right curve. originally
More fillet-ing
My pipe was in the wrong setting, so I made it too small on my first attempt. (The diametre vs radius setting)
Making the handle of the lid.
Revolve command.
Cutting the base of the kettle so that there is a material change. The sheet I used to cut went in the wrong direction at first.
The lid was a little too big at first, so I fixed the line drawing I still had and made it again.
Making the lip in the kettle - checked it and saw this.
Fixed.
Lid fits.
Then when I came to the spout to fillet it as well...it didn't work. I saw that it wasn't capped, so I tried to fix it, but this kept happening. So I decided to leave it and move on.
Boy...that was a mistake.
I moved on to when you join the spout to the main body of the kettle...
Rhino didn't like that.
I hadn't even saved in a bit, because I was getting quite frustrated and forgot to.
Luckily there was a crash save file.
Don't Rhino while mad kids.
Make sure you save.
Tried again...still a no.
So I have to fix the spout before moving on.
I took a break here because this was just one disaster after another and I was getting quite frustrated and I didn't want to throw my laptop across the room.
I have gotten this message at least three times...
This geometry is weird, plus this is the result.
This side worked with no problem...
Damn...my photo is gone from the crash...oh well. I least I didn't lose everything.
HAZA!!!
Alright...video 2: New day...not frustrated
But nothing was lined up apparently because I didn't have Planar on for some reason. So when I connected the meshes, things got messy. Some adjusting later, and it's fixed.
I lied. It's still not lined up.
Then the connection actually worked.
Did the exact same thing. Just delete it and try again. And then it worked.
Then when it came to closing that middle space...
Rhino really hates me sometimes.
I decided to just move on (because there are two other versions of the handle to do) and just use the patch command.
Except for the patch command absolutely hated the other side.
Copy, paste, done.
Version two: It took me a bit to figure out that he was using the isocurve mode with split to be able to split things.
But I got it in the end.
....and then we use the patch command. Nice.
Then we patch and attach the patches to everything else. This was actually kind of fun to do.
Boom. Done.
Damn you Rhino...at least I saved this time.
Then we get the last handle version set up. I liked this version of making the handle the best. Just three lines and then use the special pipe command and then smooth out the bumps.
All three are side by side for comparison.
Then a semi-rendered version so that you can see the creases in some of them.
Then smoothing out the handle version three.
Turning it into the proper version.
The Kettle.
Then the kettle with some other cuts.
Organizing layers and parts for materials and render
And the final render:
